your experience

You’ve found my webpage so you must be interested in birth photography, so what next? Well, I would love to hear from you. Send me an email, call me, text me, or fill in my contact form and let’s start to get to know each other. Being in someone’s birth space is an absolute honour and I want you to be sure that our personalities and energies are complimentary and that I am the right person to document your labour and birth.

Next we’ll organise a time for me to come and meet you (and your partner if available). This is a complimentary meeting where we can get better acquainted. I’ll be able to ask you about how and where you are wanting to birth, as well as discussing your unique journey and expectations, and you can ask me any questions you might have.

If wish to proceed and book me as your photographer I will email you a contract, a questionnaire, and an invoice with a deposit amount. The aim of the questionnaire is for me to delve a little deeper and know some of the finer details that might be important for me to capture in your birth story.

After securing your booking we will keep in touch and I will be on-call 24/7 for your birth from 38 weeks until baby is born. This means that I will stay close by and always have my camera charged and with me, and my car packed and petrol tank full.

I ask that as soon as you feel labour begin you call me. I’d rather it be a false alarm than for you to wait too long. This gives me time to start organising child minding (and to get dressed if it’s 3am). During your labour we will maintain contact, with either yourself or someone on your support team giving me updates. Generally once you are in “established labour” I will join you and start documenting. I prefer not to come earlier and risk impeding the delicate beginnings of labour.

Once I arrive I will slide unobtrusively into the energy of your birthing space and begin documenting your labour, birth, and post-partum journey. I will remain for 1-2 hours after the birth to capture those precious moments with your newest love as long as you are still comfortable with me in your intimate space.

If your labour results in a Caesarean Section I cannot guarantee that I will be able to join you in theatre. This is subject to hospital approval, and often the final decision rests with the staff on the day. Please be assured that whilst I may not be able to capture the actual moment of birth, there are many important moments to capture during labour and immediately after the birth.

Fresh 48 sessions can be done either in the hospital or at home and is a wonderful time to capture beautiful firsts such as sibling meetings, Grandparents first hold, a first bath, breastfeeding, and so forth. This is a documentary style shoot, not a newborn posed style shoot.

Within three days (usually less because I get so excited to edit your photos!) I will send you at least five sneak peak images that you can share or use for a birth announcement. Within two weeks your full high resolution image collection will be ready.

And finally, after getting to know you and having the honour of sharing your birth space, I would love to keep in contact with you. I want you to be more than a client; I’d love you to be a friend.

Planned Caesarean Photography

In some hospitals and under the care of some Obstetricians it is possible to arrange in advance to have a photographer in theatre to capture your baby being born by caesarean. Having a surgical background, I understand the workings and etiquette in theatre, how to move safely (and more importantly, when to not move), and have the utmost respect for the medical team. If you are having a scheduled caesarean section I would love to discuss this option with you. This package includes:

• Free initial consultation during your second or (early) third trimester in your home (or a place of your choosing if you prefer) to meet each other and talk about expectations and desires

• Documentary coverage from the moment I arrive at the birth, to 1-2 hours after birth
